Koppenberg cross. An iconic race I always wanted to race, and today I got to do it.¸p¨
Yet, I’m a bit disappointed because I feel I wasn’t able to fully grab this opportunity like I could have. The last 36h have been chaotic and a little bit stressful... France, Belgium and other EU countries are going into lockdown due to the pandemic, and here we are trying to do bike races on foreign continent, with our only stability being a rental camper van... It’s a very absurd situation, and to be honest David gagnon and I don’t know how to navigate this right now. Not racing and going home seems like the responsible thing to do. Yet, we’re already here, so if there are races, I feel like we should do them the best we can. I truly don’t know.
But the uncertainty of all this got to me today, and I had a hard time fully focusing my mind on the race. I knew I had to separate my feelings from the race, and I didn’t manage to do it well enough to perform to the best of my abilities, which is why I’m a bit disappointed with myself. It wasn’t a complete disaster though... 16th in the end and I got to experience that legendary race.
And if you wonder... yes, the Koppenberg is a pretty darn hard climb to ride up 6 times !
